1983 GMC Sierra Classic, H Vin engine (305 4bbl carb)

The issue I am having is this: When turning the switch to the intermittent position from off, it functions as though it was on the second setting (constant wipers) for anywhere between 3 – 14 wipes across the windshield, sometimes working as if it was set to the second setting. When turning the wipers down from the third position (fast wipers) down to first position, the intermittent settings on any of the rheostat settings work perfectly fine.

This was an issue with the old switch, as well as the new switch I installed just last week. (It was replaced, because just touching the switch would set it into the second setting, and require moving the switch to third setting and back to off for them to turn off, as well as being very stiff.) The new switch seems to function properly, minus the issue I described above. When replacing the switch, I looked at the male and female connector parts, and they all appeared to be in good condition (no rust or dirt to prevent good contact.)

Looking for advice on where to go on diagnosing this issue? I don’t believe it would be the fuse, since the wipers work.

Appreciate any help I could get! It’s one of two vehicles I drive regularly, and just want to keep it taken care of, and working properly!

it sounds like an issue with the pulse module, however this vehicle is a little to old for me to be able to look up a schematic on, hopefully someone here knows how to test it.

Thanks for the input, Jason. I am trying to find information on a Pulse Module for this year and model, but cannot seem to find anything saying that it is serviceable. (Possibly just my inexperience talking there.) I do see notes saying that the Pulse Module is located in the wiper motor on various models. If it is the same for this year, would a suggestion be to have the wiper motor replaced?

As far as I am aware, everything on this truck is currently original, other then the radio.
