You could tee into the pump outlet and read fuel pressure 5-7psi.
another quick way is to pull the coil wire to disable spark ignition.
remove the fuel line at the carb and using a jar crank the engine and the
jar should fill up pretty rapid.I could be wrong but I don’t think electrical fuels pumps were even dreamed of in the 60’s. Unless it was “upgraded” at some point.
Maybe someone can correct this if I am wrong but –
If the fuel pump is working and seems to deliver gas in spurts instead of a steady stream – that may be normal. It sounds silly these days but some of the older fuel pumps were driven by a special lobe on the camshaft which works a pump lever up and down to pump gas. Kind of like the pump on an old water well.Reason it works OK like that is because the fuel pump’s job was to fill a carburetor bowl which acted as a “reserve” for gasoline.
For checking pressure – yeah College man’s suggestion is easiest. You MIGHT need a special gauge to read pressure that low though. It is kind of questionable how accurate the reading will be with one that is designed for reading fuel-injection system pressures (which are double digit psi)
So if we find the fuel pressure to be low on this old car(without an electric fuel pump), how would we go about diagnosing the problem

What I meant was if the jar doesn’t fill up very quickly or not at all, then how would I go about diagnosing the problem from there.

Maybe a better way to put it would be, if there are no obstructions in the fuel lines and the pump is not pumping well enough or not at all, how would I go about determining why it was not pumping enough or at all?

Thank you. If you have fuel up to the pump then the pump is bad.
If you use compressed air and blow back though the fuel line and
take the cap off and you hear bubbling then the line is clear. If
you take a piece of fuel line to the pump inlet with a funnel on the
other end and feed the fuel pump fuel by pouring it into the funnel
then crank the engine and have the outlet of the pump in the jar and
cranking the engine you get nothing or a little bit the pump is bad.
If it does pump like crazy fuel line is restricted.
