      Hello,

I have a 1993 Honda Civic DX 1.5L Automatic. Back in the spring (2016) my shifter was stuck in park. I used the override button till I had suspension issues. I worked on the suspension for about 3 months so the car sat that entire time. While the car was sitting I replaced the safety natural switch thinking that was the only thing that controlled the car going into other gears. I got the car suspension finished and when I went to go drive the car to get it aligned it was still stuck in park. Had to override it again. I’ve done some research and see that there is a brake light switch attached to the brake peddle and a solenoid that releases the shifter. I disconnected the connector for the break light switch and shorted the wire together since that is all the switch really does from my knowledge. I could be wrong about that and maybe that’s why I’m stuck. My brake lights do work while pressing the brake peddle and while shorting out the connector. The solenoid doesn’t seem to respond to the pressing of the brake peddle though. I took off the shifter cover to watch what was happening. When I put the key in the ignition right before the car cranks over I can see the shifter solenoid jump or move in a bit like it is being primed. Again, the brake peddle doesn’t move the solenoid like it should. I went to the local pick n pull and got another one off a 1994 Honda Civic and it does the same thing. So my guess is that for some reason the solenoid isn’t getting the signal but from where does that signal come from I don’t know. There is two yellow wires that are attached to the shifter solenoid. I’ve attached three pictures. One of the brake switch, safety neutral switch and the shift solenoid. Where do these yellow wire come from so I can see what they go to? Also, back in November of 2015 I had the ECU go out on me and the local Honda stealersahip installed a new one but it worked after that so I don’t think that had anything to do with it. It also to mention that I changed all the fuses under the steering column that had anything to do with brake lights. I also checked the fuse box by the battery and didn’t see anything that pertained to this topic. I don’t have a meter to check the voltage coming to shift solenoid just that it moves a slight bit right before the car cranks over.

Please and thank you for any ideas,
      Cody

      Edit:
After a lot of research online I found out where those two yellow wires go to. See the PDF in attachment bellow.

Fuse 42 (20amp), fuse 15 (10amp) goes into connector C417 which is a junction connector. under left side of the dash. I went to the junk yard and got the interlock control unit from the same car I got the shift lock solenoid from. I plugged the interlock control unit in and nothing happened. Still have the same problem. So I can rule out but not 100% since I don’t know the state of these parts. The shift lock solenoid did the same thing right before crank. It came in a little bit but nothing happened if I pressed the brake peddle. While working on this problem I thought to myself I wonder if I had a light bulb go out on me and that was causing the system not to work. I checked all my light bulbs and I had one brake light that was out. I replaced it and still having this same problem. I don’t know what else to try. I’ve looked at all the connectors, replaced the parts from a junk yard car with the continuous same results. At this point I’m confused not knowing what to do. Maybe I’ll ask Eric during his live questions on November 9. I’ve attached all the documentation that I could find including wiring diagrams and schematics. Please look over everything and follow the trail. I might have skipped over something.
