Start with the basics first. You can check to see if you have power going to the switch.

Next i would be looking at the vacuum actuator and all your vacuum lines that are apart of the 4wd system.

Also, this video below may help –

On most full size GM trucks, there are 2 switches on the transfer case, one for the spedo sensor and one for the 4X4. Some models have some type of actuator that may have gone bad. It just depends on how your truck is set up.

Alright guys I kind of just answered my own question here…Yesterday I didn’t notice that the interior dome lights weren’t working either so I went to the fuse box and sure enough the dome light fuse was no good and when I replaced that, the four wheel drive also came back…..This is a classic case of don’t rule out the small stuff..but hey, now if something goes wrong with it and it’s not a fuse, I can come back to this thread and hopefully fix it 😀 Thanks guys

Good find on the fuse. If it blows again I would suggest doing a good visual inspection of the wiring to whatever is on that circuit. You could have an intermittent short that caused the fuse to pop

ALWAYS start with the easy stuff first, you’d be surprised at how often that works. Thanks for posting your fix and for using the ETCG forum, your responses will go on to help others.
