With my 86 silverado, I have this transmission. I like to step on it a little bit to get up to speed with traffic when I pull in, but when I do it shifts REALLY hard into second, the when it tries to go into 3rd it makes the engine sounds like its choking, it starts slowing down and wont go into third unless I let off the gas. Its been rebuilt 3 times since I got the truck, and this last time there is a leak, im guessing a bad torque converter seal. But has anyone heard of this?

If the trans has an internal leak that will affect
        line pressure.

It sounds like you might have 2 problems going on there. Since that trans was a little weak in places it may have had a shift kit installed when it was rebuilt to make it shift crisply instead of sliding into second.

The kickdown (or throttle cable) might not be adjusted correctly making it take longer to upshift.

The way you explain it, it sounds like the carburetor is running out of fuel giving you that choking feeling. When you let off the throttle the carb fills up again as not as much fuel is needed by the engine. Has the fuel filter been changed recently? Could also be a weak fuel pump.

Fuel pumps on both sides were replaced last year. I replaced my inline filter when I rebuilt the carb, the carb is getting enough gas for sure because I can slam on the gas and ill do burnouts like a madman, but once I get upto the point where it needs to shift into 3rd its just odd… I can;t explain it unless I posted a video or audio recording but im afraid im going to over work the engine. Id like to get a 700r4 but id rather not have to spend another 1k for the computer.

The fuel problem was just a thought as I’ve seen it happen before. They go like hell until all of the fuel is used up in the float bowl and then jerk or die out until it fills up again.

The TH 350 works well if it’s been modified. Try backing off the cable a couple of notches and try it.
