      I have a 1994 Prelude Si and when I start the car the tach needle would bounce then the car would stall. I put in 3 different distributors and still same symptoms. What else could this be? Coil?

        it could be the connection or the tach itself.

            Checked the connections and they look fine. I thought it could be the tach itself, but the car stalls when the tach bounces. In the past weeks a new distributor would fix the bouncing tach. When I saw it bounce again it was time for a new one. It’s not the case anymore. Even if I put on a OEM brand new one it would still have the same symptoms when I turn it on, bouncing tach followed by stalling.

              I’d look into a faulty crank sensor, cam sensor, or PCM. The distributor gets the firing signal from the PCM which gets it from the mechanical timing signals reported by the cam or crank sensors. Some distributors have the cam or crank sensor built into it but they’ll also have an external one usually located behind the harmonic balancer. I don’t know the Prelude does or not just saying it’s something to look into.

                I found the problem. There’s a ground under the thermostat housing that grounds the ECU and main relay and other things. It was loose and i tightened it up and my problems went away.
