      I got a 3.7L V6 jeep liberty. Year is 02

Car is in near mint condition and rides fine. When I bought the car from my grandpa, no noises were present. But when I got it and punched the gas a bit, the noise came along with it as well. Well long story short, the noise goes away after running for awhile (mostly goes away) and can only hear it under 2000rpms. Watch the video

It sounds like either the harmonic balancer is coming apart or there is an issue with the timing chain guides or tensioner.

Even if it goes away after driving for awhile?

Metal expands when it heats up.

              Here’s a update video
              http://youtu.be/lHFYEKHZEM8

Maybe the timing chain tensioner since the noise doesn’t continue? Meaning that you can’t hear it when idling up but only when idling down?

                Update:
On a dead cold start, no noise. After running for maybe 5-10, minutes, noise comes back. Someone please help

I think these have had problems with rocker arms and sticky valve lash adjusters… Sometimes the rocker arms fall off (you can google this I think)…

May want to pull off the valve cover and observe to see if you have any rocker arms that fell off..

I’m doing a full change to synthetic oil to see if the noise changes this weekend..in the meantime, I’ll get a new video up and move my camera around in the engine bay

I would start by removing the drive belt to see if the noise goes away. If it does then you know the problem is not the engine but something it drives. I actually cover this in this article.

I would hold off on the oil change until after you do this. You can sometimes make noises worse by changing the oil in situations like these.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Fixed it the left timing chain tensioner ended up broken and the tchain stretched. Entire new timing kit with the guides, tensioners, etc.
