Hi everyone, I have a 2015 Mazda3 2.5L automatic 5-door with exactly 18k on the odometer. The car developed a screeching noise at about 12-14k. Originally, at 40-45mph a very steady high pitch note would ring out. Recently the same screech now develops just over 25mph and is audible as the same pitch up to any speed. At first, I thought the brakes, or rotors, but the whine doesn’t ever change in pitch. That leads me to believe it’s not any of the pumps either. Could this be an electric relay? This is nowhere as loud or grating as a rock between brake pad and rotor.

A metallic type screech that is reminiscent of a high pitch whistle or high pitch violin note. The culprit is dependent on reaching a certain speed yet the pitch itself is speed independent. An automotive riddle.

Additionally, I cannot really locate if the sound is louder in the front left or the front right, but driver’s side does at times sound closer.

You have narrowed the noise to a speed which means its something that rotates.
Put the car on jack stands and have a helper put it in gear and you try and locate the
        noise.

Sounds like maybe a rotor shield making contact with the rotor.

Hey thanks, I’ll do just that, hopefully by midweek. I’ll let you know what we find. On a side note there are light grooves on both front rotors that do not seem out of control; a single 1-1.5mm circle around the near centers.

Hey, thank you for the reply! I’m not quite sure how the pitch would remain steady in that case. Audible pitch must change with the speed of the contacting surfaces, correct?
Let me know if it is still possible, I’m just trying to wrap my head around it.

I’d have a dealer do the diagnosis. The car is still under warranty.

If you dive in and frig with stuff yourself, you may later find you’ve voided your warranty when you really need it.
