I just changed the oil in my 2012 ford fusion and now I have a ticking noise coming from the passager side engine bay. I did put a 1/2 of oil into the filter but i’m guess that wasn’t enough, How do I go about solving this problem. (changing the oil and filter again?)

Did you use the same viscosity oil as Ford recommends? 5W-30, 0W-20, etc. Other than that just check the level again when it’s cold now that you’ve driven it some to make sure it isn’t low.

I used Ford motor-craft 5W-30W and Drove it around the block a few times, But its night over here so I will check it again when I’m heading to work.

It could be your oil filter. Try changing it. Be sure to use a quality filter.

I doubt this has anything to do with you changing oil or filling or not filling the oil filter.

The duratec engines in the fords to tend to knock a bit when cold could be non synthetic oil or you could have a damaged IMRC valve.

Its Fully Synthetic and the ticking went away with over 150 miles on the oil change, Thanks guys But from now on I will put oil in my oil filter when doing a oil change. The ford never made that sound until I did the oil change.

We were having this discussion a while back and one of the techs said his instructor said to never fill an oil filter – that sometimes oil containers can contain foreign objects. I remembered discovering a hard object in a jug of gear oil and removing it. So, dunno if filling an oil filter is a good practice or not.
