Good Morning. My dad purchased a Toyota Camry new in 2011. He also purchased the full maintenance agreement. My dad passed away 2 years ago and we let my sister have the car. She has continued with the service maintenance on the car. Two weeks ago she took it to the Toyota dealer to have the maintenance done which includes the oil and filter change. Last week the engine started making some noise, so she took it to back to the Toyota car dealer. They told her that it needs a new motor at $5000.00 cost. I told her to take it to another dealer and get a second opinion. They also told her that the motor is bad and needs to be replaced. This car only has 117,000 miles on it with Toyota doing all the service and maintenance.

My question?? Has there been or is there issues with 2011 V-6 engine having problems?
I appreciate all your support and feed back. Thank You

I’d have thought when Toyota did the service they would have picked up the engine was on the way out. Not the first time I’ve heard of this from Toyota dealers .

You can do some research on the net to see if there are issues with this engine because if there are there will be lots of complaints published in various web sites. Have a look at some of the Toyota Camry Owners Forums which will give you a good idea.

You have not mentioned what is wrong with the engine. But if a new engine is needed then I assume it is noisy because of excessive wear and poor lubrication because of sludge build up, insufficient oil changes and allowing the oil level to drop low.. If the vehicle has only the bare minimum of oil changes or less I would expect issues.. Furthermore, if the vehicle has been consuming some oil (likely) and the oil level is never checked between scheduled oil changes(quite common among many owners) then low oil level will mean inadequate lubrication and engine damage.

The best option given the circumstances is to trade the car in for something else. A decent used 2011 Camry with about 120000 miles is only worth around 10000 full retail. I would not bother spending a whole stack of cash dropping another motor in your Camry with that value and with those miles. Put the money into a better car.

Look up JDM engines because there are tons of used motors from Japan with low miles. Maybe find someone else to install the engine for less.

              Hi
If the car was made in Australia those v-6 are bullet-proof I would find out what cause the problem those motors don’t give up that easily unless the dealer didn’t put enough oil in The motor
              Good luck

If that engine is maintained properly it should last at least 300 000 mi. I have seen them. Anything could have caused the engine to fail and I suspect the dealer had something to do with it but proving it could be impossible. Because of the year of the car I would look up a good low mileage engine from salvage and have someone reputable install it.
