2011 Ram tailgate won’t lock

I recently put a cover over the bed of my 2011 Ram 1500. Afted installing it, my tailgate no longer locks with the key. It turns and sounds like it does, but it can still be opened up. Any ideas as to what wouod would cause this?

My first thought is some kind of interference.
The tailgate may not be fully latched in its closed position preventing it from being locked.
