Good morning, all!
I probably know the answer, but I’d feel better having a second opinion.
A friend’s 2011 Versa S hatchback is coming up on its 60k service.
Nissan’s recommended service interval for trans fluid and the ‘long life’ coolant falls within that replacement window (as does the serpentine belt, and swapping out brake fluid too).
My questions are…
1) Nissan claims that the system was designed to have a vacuum drawn on the coolant system to ensure there’s no air pockets. While they say you can do it the old way (like in Eric’s vids), it isn’t recommended as there will be air pockets as a result. Anyone know for sure if you HAVE to draw the vacuum, or can we do it the usual way?
2) That being said, is a drain of the radiator and overflow bottle sufficient, or is it really required to do a full exchange?
3) Replacing the trans fluid at 60k seems like a decent enough idea. Naturally, they require Nissan brand fluid as they use a crazy weight (75w85 I think or there-abouts). I know Hondas are picky.. anyone know if Nissans are as well? OEM best, or is there a good recommendation?
4) I can see the wisdom of swapping out the brake fluid too. Dad’s minivan had sludge in the lines from all the moisture that got in.. Might as well swap it to keep it clean, yes?
As always, thanks for being there, gang. Y’all make my day!
