I recently purchased a 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL. So far I love the car. My one concern is a noise coming from the blower motor. It almost sounds like a bearing rattle noise on low to medium speed settings. The longer the fan is on the more pronounced the noise becomes. It is not over whelming but, being a car guy these noises drive me crazy! Even my passengers have noticed the noise. My car is still under Nissan factor warranty because I only have 31,500 miles but I fear the issue will get worse after my warranty expires. I took my car to Nissan today and they removed the motor and inspected it. They even showed me the blower motor and spun it by hand and I couldn’t hear anything. There also didn’t seam to be any play in the motor. Nissan didn’t charge me for the diagnosis when the Service Writer told me on the phone that there would be a charge when I made my appointment if they couldn’t find a fault or found debris in the fan. After removing and re-installing the blower the noise when away. After about 3 miles of driving with the heater on the noise returned but isn’t as dominate. I also smelled a hint of WD-40 when I first got into my car.

Is it possible to just sprayed some lubricant into the motor to quiet it? What would the dealer have to loose or gain by not replacing the motor? I work in the service industry and know all about duplicating problems before repairing under warranty but, I always make exceptions by listening to my clients. What would I have to gain but wasting my Saturday off sitting at the dealership if their wasn’t a genuine problem?

Has anyone else witnessed this issue with the noisy blower motor on Nissan Altima 2011?

If the noise has returned then so should you to the dealer.
The dealer tried to lube the bearing in order to not change
the fan. Guess what you will be back. Is there another dealer
        around?

I agree, it sounds like they attempted to lube the blower motor bearing. I called the dealer back and they didn’t deny it. The gave me an excuse that the motor must be bad enough for them to send it back to Nissan and not get charged. I’m in business to make money and I completely understand preventing unnecessary charges but, there is a point when taking care of my customers is more important than an $100 part that probably cost only a few dollars to manufacture. They think they can pull one over on me when I work on cars on the side. I have replaced enough blower motors to know there is an issue. I guess I don’t understand the politics of a dealership and processes. It’s a shame that customers are at the mercy of the dealership when their vehicle is under the branded warranty. This isn’t just Nissan, I have dealt with this sort of issue before with GM. Thankfully the one GM dealership I dealt with did everything to take care of me when I bought my car there, even if they had to comp the cost of the part and labor. You don’t find that type of service anymore and when you do stick with that dealership.

Maybe Eric would have some in-site on this? He used to work for a dealership.

I wanted to update everyone on the blower motor noise issue in my 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL. On the second trip to the dealership I made the service writer sit in the car with me and listen to the noise. He hear it FINALLY and had the technician replace the blower motor under Nisan’s Manufacturers Warranty. Don’t get me wrong, the guys at Nissan where all very nice but, they seem over worked and brainwashed to try and do everything possible to not repair things under warranty. I don’t understand this reasoning. I base my future vehicle purchase choices completely based upon dealership repair experience and reliability. Dealerships need to realize they are not just representing them selves but the entire brand name they sell. Lets hope that IF I require additional dealership service or repairs my next experience will be better. I have researched other Nissan Dealerships that are further away from my house and the reviews sound similar to my experience. I hope this isn’t a Nissan thing. Thanks for reading everyone.

Glad you got it replaced. I have two Nissan dealerships I use.
One is where I buy my cars.I get good deals and its for the most
part hassle free. But they suck for service and they give no discount
on parts. The other dealership I use for service/warranty.For the most
part they do a good job Happy with that. But to try and buy a car from
them they suck. They tell you that you are to pay full msrp and thats it.
So each dealership has there own quirks. I have had the same problems with
Ford, chevy. This is the way it has been for as long as I have been buying vehicles.
Thats why I do all my own work unless its warranty or a recall. 🙂
