Hoping someone may have some insight as to where to go next for my issue.

I have a 2011 Yukon with the 5.3L V-8. 6 months ago or so I started to get a faint squeak from under the hood. Previously I had replaced the idler and tensioner pullies as a general maintenance item and not out of necessity. I thought maybe the issue was one of those pullies so I reinstalled the originals but the problem remained. I took it to a mechanic to have it fixed, they swore up and down that it was the actual tensioner so I had that replaced. Leaving the shop it started squeaking again. I pulled back in and they said it was the alternator, which I had replaced only a month prior with a new AC delco part because of a separate issue. I put the old alternator back on, problem still persists. Remove drive belt, it goes away. Also had the A/C belt removed and still heard the same squeaking – new belt is installed now(stretch fit belts are lame). After the tensioner replacement the noise did go away for about a month, but now it’s back at random times….see below for the current details.

That leads me into right now…the squeak is not constant and comes and goes as it pleases. I can start it up cold in the morning and it will be fine, then start about halfway to my office, then stop before I arrive. That same afternoon it may squeak as soon as I start it to go home and may or may not stop by the time I get home. I’m wanting to try the spray bottle method to determine if it may still be a pulley or something else but everytime I go to try to diagnose it, it wont do it.

Anyone have any suggestions outside of gas and a match? I am tired of tossing money at this problem but I want to fix it before it becomes a bigger issue and leaves me stranded somewhere.

with what you have already done. i think i would be looking at that water pump i have had this sort of thing happen with the 5.3 water pumps a lot. take that belt back off and check for play just grab the fan blades and see if there is any play buy moving the front and rear. lets us no if you find anything maybe this will help.

That was my thought too, I actually have new water pump ready to install but haven’t had the time or weather to dig into it.

This year has electric fans so they aren’t attached to the engine directly. I’ll take a look this week/weekend.

            Some other possible causes…
            A loose exhaust component.
            A plumbing isolator
            Motor mount / tranny mount
            Sloppy hinge
