      Hello,

2010 vw touareg epc light is on. The car drives normally. One thing that I have noticed is the side mirrors are taking longer time to open than before. BTW Usually when ever I start up the car, the side mirror flip open automatically. and whenever the engine is shut off, mirrors close.

WHat does the EPC means and does it have to do with electrical problems?

      Thanks

EPC stands for Electronic Power Control. In spite of the name, it has nothing to do with your folding power mirrors. “Power”, in this case, refers to engine power and torque management and delivery. The EPC light tells you that there is a problem with electronic engine control systems, like Traction Control, Cruise Control or a drive-by-wire throttle pedal/throttle body.

You should get your stored codes read, using an “official” VW scan tool. That means a trip to the dealership.

Thank you for your reply. The manual states that the EPC warning light is for the (engine management system), which is, from what I understand, is similar to Electronic Power Control.

Updated: today, the car started up and the warning EPC light is off. Should I be worried still or relax until it come back on then take it to the dealer? Plus, won’t a regular ODB2 scan tool work for dem VWs?

There will still be some codes stored if the light was on. Getting the codes pulled is the first step to finding out what’s going on. Just for the heck of it, you might want to check the battery. Many electrical problems can start there. More info here.

Try and have the codes pulled BEFORE you check the battery. If the battery is disconnected, the codes will be erased.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

Update: I went to the dealer they told me it will cost $423 (that’s equal to 127 Kuwaiti Dinnar) for battery and installation.
So I decided to buy the battery from the dealer, which cost $200 and install it at a German car specialist. He connected his scanner and diagnosed it as weak battery because we got 3 fault codes related to low voltage. Which approved your diagnose too Eric.
Anyway, they took $32 to install it in front of me. Took 30 minutes. He erased the fault codes too for free.
Total cost $232 instead of 423 dealer price.
I’ll keep you goes updated if the EPC light comea back on. But for now, everything is perfectly normal.

Thank you Eric for being so awsome
              BTW, I’m from Kuwait.
