My girlfriend took her 2010 Toyota Camry Hybrid to a dealership today to get an oil change. They informed us that there was no engine side air filter in the car. The car was purchased 3-4 month ago from a private owner.
They could change it out for $30, but we were in a rush getting home and told them we could pick one up from the auto parts store and install it ourselves. At Auto Zone they looked up the part number and we purchased the air filer. But now the air filter will not fit. I took it back to Auto Zone and they assured me it was the right one. We compared it to other filters of higher grade and they were identical in appearance.
Basically the filter looks just like the one in youtube videos, on how to replace them. The filter has 3 round corners and 1 corner that has a square. We put the filter in the same way as shown on on-line instructions but there is no way for the filter to fit, the housing for the filter does not have space for that squared corner to sit flat inside the housing. When you put the lid/cover on, the back end clips will latch, but when you try to close it, it will not close enough to tighten it down with the bolts. The lid/cover also has plastic guides or notches, one on each side, that seem to impact the filter, when trying to put the cover back on.
How do I go about finding a filter that will fit? Or what would be causing this to happen?
