I recently bought a 2010 Malibu LTZ with the 4 cyl. 2.4 Ecotec with the 6 speed transmission. I have a couple questions for you. I’m getting used to the fact that GM, (and all the others) don’t want you to work on your own vehicle, but bring it to the dealership. Not going to happen. I’m also used to GM not putting dip sticks on the transmissions anymore. I know to check the trans fluid, it needs to be running in park and there is a plug that you unscrew out and if fluid runs out it’s full. If fluid doesn’t run out, you need to add. I know where to add, but I cannot find out where the plug is to check it. Do you have a picture that would show where that plug is located?
Also, I see there may be an issue with the timing chain(s) tensioners/guides on this engine. I have 95,000 miles on this car, and was wondering if these should be changed out? I always change my oil at 3,000 miles on all my vehicles. I use Vavoline 5w30 conventional oil. Would I be better off running synthetic oil?

      Thanks for the help

The check bolt is on the drivers side just above the subframe behind the axle. 11mm socket will get it off for you.

Why do you suggest chains and guides? CEL, noisy? Chains are common on the 2.4 and even tsb’s out for the issue. Mostly are common in the equinox though. Just curious on your answer as many customers don’t even notice that bring their vehicles in for service.
