My friend has a 2010 Explorer and wants to replace the trans filter and fluid but there is no trans dipstick. If I drop the trans pan, Will I be able to add fluid through the fill plug hole using a funnel? Is the hole big enough that a funnel will fit in?

You didn’t say if it’s 2 wheel drive,4 WD or all wheel drive and engine size but I believe there is a drain plug in the transmission pan. It consists of a large plug to drain with a smaller plug in the center of the large plug to refill. There is a stand pipe inside and you fill the trans through the small hole in the center until it overflows the stand pipe.

Unfortunately, this requires special equipment and a scan tool to measure the transmission temperature.

I might have the wrong vehicle but might turn out to be fairly accurate. You need a adapter that fit into the drain/inspection hole. At specific temperature it should seep from it. if not you need more fluid. Of it’s pissing like a river, you are overfull.

So to double check transmission fluid, you will need a scanner with transmission PID.
