2009 Nissan 370Z P0300 Caused by Bad Gas??

So I was checking out a car I was considering buying and saw a CEL. It was P0300 random misfire. The guy said it was because of bad gas and it ran better once he refilled at a different station. He just didn’t get around to clearing it. He said his mechanic confirmed that was the problem.

Is this true? That bad gas could cause a random misfire?

Bad gas can make an engine misfire. Clear the code and see if it comes back.

That’s what I did. I’ll see if it’s back when I pick up the car. Just wanted to make sure the seller wasn’t trying to trick me.

If I were trying to sell a car, I’d be sure to clear that kind of red flag, so I think he might be full of it.

The 370 engine has VVEL. We don’t see many of those with problems but when they do get problems, they can be very expensive to repair.
