Driver said car was working fine, when he put car in gear from park, car stalled and then wouldn’t crank.

      • no DTCs
      • verified that starter turns engine over by jumping it from the starter relay
      • pulled out ecm and verified that the transmission range switch is functioning
      • ignition switch checks out

For some reason, the starter relay is not getting its 12 volt signal from the ECM to energize the relay, even though the park/neutral signal is giving the green light (goes to low signal)
Been at this all day and still have a car dead in the water..be glad for any suggestions.

two thing that come to mind is alarm system is activated and needs to be cycled close open close open. the one thing I really think is, if it has one, the passkey VATS system. when you put the key in the on position and all the light come on see if the passkey or vats light comes on, do not crank just give it a few seconds to recognize the key. Once the key is recognized the light should go out then it should crank. lastly just a thought maybe the starter relay. good luck, and take care.

I went through the alarm system relearn procedure, turn key to crank..leave in ON position for 10 minutes, do this 3 times. Still no crank. No signal to the starter relay. I checked at the output of ECM to relay and no 12 volt signal at any time. The relay itself tests fine. Have to figure out why ECM is being difficult.
