anyway,so all was replaced.and right after ,that week after they were all replaced,i noticed that coming from the passenger side front end, there is a clunking/popping sound when i am in driving in parking lots with dips and holes ,going over speed bumps, making left or right turns, all at slow speeds.but never on highways or clean roads.it drives beautifully on clean roads.
so i brought it back to the repair shop, riding with them and they heard the noise. they first suggested that its probably a bad strut, right out of the box. ok, so they warrantied/ replaced with a brand new strut assembly and strut mount and bushings. go to pick it up,test drive and its still doing the clunking and popping. so,now they think it could be the sway bar links…. so they replace those,go to pick it up,test drive it and its STILL making the noise. i am frustrated and sick and everything but happy about this.
tomorrow, they will be looking at it again.. to see if they could find the issue at hand. this is going on 3 weeks now and many part replacements, which none have fixed the problem. what the heck could this be??? maybe another bad strut assembly?? or mount. anyone have this issue right after replacing their struts??

        Alyson,

Just going to throw out a few things… This is hard to diagnose without us hearing a sound or driving it ourselves (heck even your techs can’t figure it out when it is in their shop)… A few questions for yourself and ones you can take to the techs (print this out and take to them)

Did you get an alignment done at all when these were replaced?

Did they check the bolts holding the strut? Were there any Camber adjusting bolts installed or removed (elliptical bolts) (This goes back to a proper alignment)…

Did you have a CV axle replaced? Possibly Check CV outer axle joint, CV axle fitment and torque on the CV axle nut. A pop or clunk on a left turn will be in the right CV…. Can be loose axle nut, but this should have been caught…

Did they install quick struts (comes with new spring and bearing) or just struts and they removed and put on the old springs and possibly the old strut bearings… Noises such as this can be the strut bearings….

Possibly wrong or inferior parts replaced…

Improperly re-installed brake calipers (small chance)

Possibly sway bar bushings (not the sway bar links) (small chance)

Possibly bad lower control arm bushings (small chance)

Possibly an issue with lower ball joints (small chance)

Possibly a loose steering rack or binding U joint in the steering column

Engine/transaxle mounts… Have them inspect them.. a very small chance, but possible…

Is this 4WD or on command 4WD or AWD? Have you changed the tires recently?

        Couple of last thoughts…

A pop sound usually means something is binding and breaking free… A clunk means something is loose… Together, this is very interesting and challenging…

        Best of luck…

        -Karl

In my case the clunking was either a bad tie rod or lower control arm. (owned a 2006 honda cr-v SE) I would suggest checking out those and also the front right CV axle as if something is up with those they can make a popping sound at low speed turns and bumps as you described. also completely unrelated, but if it is an AWD model and you ever start to hear a loud humming coming from the rear 9 times out of ten its the rear differential fluid needing to be changed. Good luck, shouldn’t be a big deal to track down the problem. Honda CR-V’s are such easy and fun cars to live with.
