Hi there. I’m a bit lost. Got a 2009 Ford escape AWD with a 3.0 DOHC AT. Sometimes when you apply the brakes, the engine stalls… Fuel pump ok, relay ok… It’s got a capless fuel inlet on it, (that I hate). I suspected dirty vent or some sort but after taking it appart and checked, everything is clear… Like I said, a bit lost here… any ideas?

Are you getting any Check Engine Light codes….

Perhaps also if you can describe other things better. How does it idle when in park and in drive.

Does the problem go away after you restart?

This can be anything from a vacuum leak to a bad torque converter…. More detail the better.

Maybe a very dirty throttle body. Possibly a bad/sticking idle Air Control Valve. Probably both.

I would suspect a faulty diaphragm inside the power brake booster. I’ve had these diaphragms cause this condition on many different makes and models over the years. It is usually accompanied by a leaking rear seal on the master cylinder-the diaphragm and the brake fluid don’t get along. The diaphragm is not serviceable-the booster has to be replaced.

No check engine light, idles perfect and restart right away until next time the problem comes back… Throtle body is perfect, but electronic.

If everything appears ok you will need to connect a scan tool that reads data and observe that data while the problem is occurring. I have seen a couple of bad electronic throttle bodies on Fords as well as throttle pedals but they usually set a fault code however.

Take the car to an open area.Pull the brake booster line
and plug it.Drive the car and see if the stalling stops. If
it does either the brake booster or line has a problem. Your
brakes will be real hard to use.You could also check for vacuum
                    leaks.
