My wife’s 2008 Hyundai elantra doesn’t want to start when she fills the take. When it does finally start it stutters and stalls a few times.. I’m thinking it’s the fuel pump. She is also getting a p0441 code. Whitch I believe is the purge valve. But the stalling is the biggest concern. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

hyundais and kias have issues with the evap system getting clogged with carbon pellets. A lot of time you can pull the evap canister down and try and pour out whatever pellets you can. This usually only affects the ease of filling up the tank, but its worth a shot and free, if it fixes it

Your problem is common on those cars. When you fill the tank raw fuel is sent through the stuck open purge valve into the engine. The engine gets flooded with fuel. Replace the purge valve and your problems should be cured.

Thank you! I was hoping it would be something easy. after changing the water pump on a 1997 chevy cav. that was attached to the timing belt i need something easy and quick (also inexpensive) to do on one of my cars. ill call the dealer this week to get a quote on the price of the valve. shouldn’t be more than 60 i believe.

As pointed out the canister purge valve is the common cause of that issue. You might replace it, clear the code, and recheck for the problem.

Good luck and keep us posted.
