      Hi Guys,

Hope you all are having a nice holiday season and have a good New Year.

My Civic is making a clunking suspension noise. I read the information page and also re-watched Eric’s suspension noise video. All very helpful and I am going to look into the matter more.

However, I was wondering if one of you could answer a question I have. Maybe this info will help one of you pinpoint the issue.

The suspension was starting to make the clunking noise over bumps a few months back. However, it was here and there and I put on my winter tires and it was clunking once again here and there, no changes. Then I got an alignment and now the clunking noise is louder and permanent.

Now since I had the car aligned and the noise is permanent does that tell you something of where it could be coming from? Also does this car tend to have an issue in one place over the others?

Basically I am asking because hopefully I can go and look in this area right away instead of going on a hunt.

Also the noise is coming from the front left.

Thank you and once again Happy Holidays.

There are about 16 rubber bushings and four ball joints and two struts and two strut bearings and four tie rod ball joints in the front end of most cars. Any one or more than one of those things may be wearing out. You have to jack up that side of the car, take off the wheel, and use a flashlight to inspect every movable and sliding joint. Every part is supposed to be hooked up to pivot at an angle against every other part, with no slop. Wiggle everything until you feel some looseness or noise. You probably wont be able to wiggle the strut, so if everything else is tight, it might be the strut or its bearing.

If the car has sway bar end links check them.
