OK, I have just about had it with this car. We bought this car with just under 50K on it it was previously a corp lease vehicle. Great shape and all maint records…right before our warranty went out about 54k had bll joint sounds and took it to dealer…they found issue but also found tranny was slipping and wound up replacing it. Here we are 150K and now slipping again. Driving and all sorts of warning lights started going off at once( trans axle wrench, airbag, tire preasure sensor as well as no speedometer or dash messages such as odometer or mpg). drove straight to autozone and ran codes when parking rough shift clunk. code came back output speed sensor on tranny.. started back up and all normal again but still has slip/hesitation.
With all that said, every search I do about this make and model says that that transmission was crap (6f50)and known issues but no permanent fix. short term only and expensive….

I would like to know if any Ford mechanics can comment on this or if any other ideas are out there…I’m half temped to call the bank and tell them to take it cause I’m tired of fixing one thing or another and it seems a money pit.

I’m NOT a FORD mechanic. If I read your post correctly it appears you went 100K after the first rebuild/replacement of the trans. In that 100K did you perform any fluid/filter changes/flushes on the transmission? Did you replace the speed sensor that was detected in the scan at AutoZone? Who did the original rebuild/replacement? Have you had any discussion with them about the current condition? You mentioned that the car is a money pit-what else has plagued you with this vehicle? I’ve had clients in similar circumstances as yours with various brands of cars. Sometimes it is best to part ways, but I would not suggest telling the bank to take it, that is a black eye for you that would take a long time to heal. Let’s communicate.

my ex g/f had a ford taurus X… and the transmission was HORRID. It got repo’d and we were both happy when they took that piece of crap away.

It might be worth looking into the output sensor.

Thanks for the replys. The tranny was replaced by the ford dealership that I bought the car at originally. normal maint has benn continued on the car since I ot it. Had tune-up done at about 85k. All rotars and brakes from calipers out have been replaced in last month.( irrelivantt to this issue but fyi). No auto part stores OR the Dealer have the output sensor..Has to be ordered but mfg is out of stock……..the dealership actually said “since it’s working now, why not just wait and see…..” I kid u not.
I will attempt to find a reputable repair shop and have it looked at but it seems stupid to replace any major drive train piece every 80-100k in a modern vehicle. Might be a reason ford didn’t offer any 100k powertrain warranties on these////

PLease if there are any other ideas or someone who has any experience with this model or transmission reply..

I plan on having it looked at somewhere else than the dealer who replaced and then said just wait….by looking at the posts online I’m not sure if it isnt a bigger issue but I hope somewhat simple fix…..any idea how to access/replace the speed output sensor on this? The parts breakdown the dealer showed me was crap and would not help past that(duh).

Also forgot to mention another episode/problem…now 3 days after lights and dealer blow off….was leaving a parking lot and car stopped as in rolling, it was like I threw it from 3rd to park. Engine still running….pulled over to edge…shifted to reverse…..looked for anything hanging or leakes….hought I saw fluid but was only evap water fronm A/C no tran fluid….parked for 20 min and then strarted and drove 30mph…no lights or rough shifts…went slow didnt want to damage anything else…. was able to drive home about 10 mile at 40 mph and acting normal….could the output speed sensor failing do this?

Your trans is electronically controlled. The output sensor
has alot to do with how that car shifts. You could try and
remove and clean the sensor to see if things improve.could
you also post the code you got. 😉
