I have a 2008 Ford Escape with a blower motor speed problem. Original problem was no blower motor operation until position 4 was selected. I replaced the blower motor resistor and now I only get position 1,2 and 4. Position 3 is inop or I should say that there is no change in the fan speed between positions 2 and 4. I thought it might be a bad resistor from stock and took it back to Ford for a replacement and plugged in the second one and had the same result. I’m not an electrical knowledge based mechanic. But do you think it might be in the selector switch?

Sounds possible. Might want to pick up a service manual for your car/truck and check the wiring and do a voltage check. Also it’s a good idea to ensure the plug to the blower resistor has nice clean and tight contacts.

I’d go after the blower switch next. They can get burnt and shorted too. I’d bet that if you thought about it a little, the blower switch feels just a little different than it used to. Pull the heater panel out of the dash and you’ll likely find the switch and the connector burnt and melted down some.

Thanks for the advice. I ordered a Power Probe kit and it should be in by Tuesday. At that time I will ring out the system for continuity and voltage. My suspicion is that you’re correct. I’m a professional Arcraft Mechanic with only a basic knowledge of avionics. But I do know how to test circuits so I’ll go that route. Thanks Buddy!

                Power Probe!

Going for the good stuff! (I just use a test light and my old radio shack multimeter) Let me know how you like the power probe. I’ve been toying with the idea of picking up one.
