Need to replace the alternator. Not quite sure how to get the belt off.

Is there a belt tentioner, or can I just back off a screw to loosen the belt?

Have already taken off the negitave battery terminal.

Hey thanks. This helps a lot.
Am going to try and put a 19mm socket and breaker bar on there.

Got her done. Man, that belt tensioner what a bear. Checked out a tool from autozone. The tool broke. Luckly had enough of the tool left to hook up a breaker bar. Felt like the tensioner was hydraulically loaded. Have to pull it real slow. Also had to make a stick for putting the serpentine belt back on. Would not have been so bad, but I have to work out side. Got dark and dropped to 36 degrees. Alternator cost about $115. They say it has a lifetime warrenty on it. Wonder how much it would have cost to take the Highlander to a shop? Had a good time working on it.

Glad it worked out. In the future this video might help with an issue like that. Thanks for keeping us up to date and for using the ETCG forum.
