      This is my wife’s Toyota.

We bought it brand new in 2006 and it only has 59500 miles on it right now.

Up until last year, she was only driving about 6-10 miles everyday(reason for low mileage. 20000 miles out of 59500 was put on in last 1 1/2 years). no oil consumption problem at all.

Now we moved to other town and she has to drive about 60 miles everyday, so I changed oil to full synthetic so I don’t have to change oil so often. I was changing oil religiously on this car. never went over 3000 miles when it was on conventional oil.
Since I changed to full synthetic, I change oil every 5000 miles. and now this oil consumption problem occurs.

When I first noticed this, it was down to bottom mark of oil stick and I topped it off. It held until I changed oil.
Today I check the oil and it was down below the bottom oil mark and this was around 2500 miles after the oil change. I put in about 1 1/4 quarts to make it come up to top mark.

Is full synthetic accelerating this or it’s just car?

1 1/4 in 2500 miles is way too much IMO. if this is my ride i wouldn’t care too much.
but my wife rides this everyday and if oil light comes on, she probably doesn’t even know what that is and ride it until it dies. and this scares me.

I searched around internet and found some stuffs.

A lot of 2007 Camry owners were having same problem. there was even this lawsuit investigation going on about this oil consumption problem.

Well, that’s not good. Even so, switching back to conventional oil might help the problem. I say worth a try. You gotta change oil anyway.

              Here’s the TSB:
              http://www.rav4world.com/tsb/2011/T-SB-0094-11.pdf

60months or 60k miles. If you noted this beforehand at a Toyota service location, you might be able to get this covered under the warranty still. Especially if you have a history at a dealership on good terms.

BTW, if you mention 1.25 quarts every 2500 miles, they won’t consider it under the TSB requirements either. It needs to be greater than 1 quart every 1,200 miles, otherwise it’s considered by them to be acceptable.

Were it me, I’d probably just exaggerate a bit, and at least try to get this covered under Toyota’s dime. Perhaps even contact Toyota’s customer service line directly. You have nothing to lose.

It may be a common issue with the vehicle but the synthetic oil is likely making the problem worse. I would still recommend switching back to conventional oil to help slow things down. It may take a couple of oil changes though.

Good luck and keep us posted.
