Actually stuck on this one at work…. Bare with it, its a bit detailed.

Have a 2007 Jeep Liberty with TPMS (and the roof mounted heads up display that shows pressures) Came in with 2 rear damaged sensors and a missing spare sensor.. replaced with 3 schrader EZ-Sensors to each tire and the spare, made sure the spare tpms was installed with the valve stem at 3 o’clock. Accessed the WCM/TPS/SKREEM module and found that i was able to input the 8 digit ID for the spare sensor which i was able to succesfully add, but no other sensors.

After doing that, i used my handheld TPMS tool (Bartec) to scan each sensor to wake it up, which it seemed to do successfully (could read IDs, temps, and pressures) and normally at this point i relearn the sensors to the vehicle, however when i get to that step and plug it into the OBD port, it will read the VIN, but fail writing the new IDs, and checking DTCs. It then proceeds to tell me that it the OBD interface is not plugged in… which is odd as it works on every other vehicle i have used it on.

So after this, i went to a Snap-on Modis.. I was able to access the same module and it gave me the option to enter IDs. I attempted to manually add the IDs, and it says ‘successful’ … but upon reading the sensors again.. they are still the same. Odd.

So after doing some diag work, the only thing left to do was replace the SKREEM module in the steering column.. Did that, reprogrammed it and the keys and everything worked fine…. except i still cannot write IDs to the module. Even went as far as checking the 3 transponder units in the wheel wells, all of which check out. So i then replaced the front two OEM sensors went back to the Modis to program them, and it is showing what i assume to the be the OEM sensors in #1 and #2 (LF, RF) and 00000 in both #3 and #4 (no sensor registered). and it will not overwrite them with the new values no matter what i try. The overhead display is showing that i have 0 on LF, a blinking 0 on R/F and — on L/R and R/R (where no sensors are registered). And a solid TPMS light.

So after doing more research, read that sensors normally auto-learn (sit 20 mins, drive 10+ miles over 20mph) which i did multiple times… what i make out of all of this is that its still looking for the factory TPMS sensors in the front (since they are still registered and i cannot overwrite them) and does not see any in the rear (since they were initially missing) and cannot read the replacements (automatically or manually)

Any ideas on what to try next? Ive put 30 miles on the new sensors trying to get them to automatically program, and manually trying fails everytime. The Module has been replaced, the transponder units are all good, the sensors read with the handheld tool… Im really out of ideas on what to try next.. anyone run into this before?

Here are some pictures of the scan tool data that i am seeing.

Chrysler’s have the most overly temperamental TPMS systems of them all. I have come across situations where aftermarket sensors just won’t be recognized. Sometimes even the individual sensors may not register.

In you shot of the second screen, it appears to show active codes in the TPMS module. This will almost always lockout the ability to relearn successfully.

Beyond that you’re looking at either trying different sensors or starting to troubleshoot the TPMS system itself.

I believe the problem to be aftermarket sensors. Ordering OEM sensors. Had multiple people tell me they have run into the same issue. I’ll keep you all updated on what happens once they come in.
