      Goodmorning ETCG friends-
ok I will get right to the point. 2007 chevy impala 3.9L police vehicle. Tring to I/M (emissions inspection) the vehicle but code p0054 (HO2S2 HEATER HIGH RESISTANCE)keeps coming up! Went through pinpoint tests ohm sensor out 6.6ohms, power feed 12.4v, flashes with KOEO, blah, blah blah. so everything is checking out so i decide to put a sensor in anyway. Drive vehicle to rest monitors, when i try to go for second drive or second trip check engine light comes on as soon as i start vehicle. go through tests again- (i could not rule out a faulty new part) everything checks out. Itake it a step further & get a elect. diagram and ohm out heater wires from connector to ecm .4ohms on all wires,WTF!!! SO my question is bad ECM right?
I ran in to similar problem months ago with variable valve solenoid went through tests ohm out wires order ECM. when ECM did not fix problem changed engine wiring harness problem fixed. U see these vehicles run 24/7 & idle 24/7 the harness is like a rock wires fusing together creating an intermittant short if you will so that is why im ify on ECM, plus dealer said he has never put ECM in Impala or ordered ECM ever!

Thanks for any input you can share with me

try performing voltage drops on the wires. that sometimes reveals more accurate results. .4 ohms mighgt be a little high for wiring.

can you perform voltage drop on a pulse modulated wire? also i meant to say 0.4ohms.

with a scope i guess you can, but normal dvom won’t catch it fast enough.

One thing to watch out for is that you need to be on the correct sensor. It is possible you tested or replaced the wrong sensor. Before you condemn the PCM I would look to see if you have the right sensor.

Hello again its been awhile but i still have this pesky P0054 code after, and dont laugh because i am desprite (replaced pcm, engine wiring harness, underhood fuse block, 3-o2sensors) and still get the same code.

Now i just stumbled onto some new information and if anyone can tell me the proper procedure that would be great! I was told to use the tech2 and do a heated oxygen sensor resistence relearn, which until now never new anything about. Ive replaced dozens of o2 sensors in these impalas and never relearned anything why now? Wondering if that was my problem from the start?

I am glad i work for a city/gov agency because i am imbarrassed with the amount of money, time, and parts the i threw at this vehicle if it turns out to be a stupid relearn procedure. But i am grateful that i can learn something new at a hefty price with no reprocussions.

                p.s. sorry my spelling sucks!

I hate to tell you this after all of that….
But, you have to do the relearn with any 02 sensor replacement on that car.

If that doesn’t fix it, let me know and I can send you all of the service manual info on it (if ya don’t have it.)

Also, make sure after you do the programming or have it done to recheck your sensor. If the relearn isn’t done and it’s driven far it can ruin the sensor.

I think i know what the problem is! The computer we use at work for inventory is wrong. some one entered in the wrong info for o2 sensors and i was installing a o2 sensor that fit a 08-10 impala 07 impala uses a different part# but still connects and installs the same just has different resistance value which is why i am getting p0054!

But you say i still have to do a relearn? i do have a tech2 at my disposal i tried to do it but not sure if im doing it right? it dosent say job complete or anything like that so how do i know if it was done? can you give me step by step directions?

I’m gonna be real honest here, it’s been awhile since I’ve done one. I know that you have to clear all dtcs before starting, and I believe you just go in under special fuctions and follow the prompts. I apologize I can;t tell ya a lot more on it gmsi just says :

Heated Oxygen Sensor Resistance Learn Reset Notice
Notice: When replacing the HO2S perform the following:
                      • A code clear with a scan tool, regardless of whether or not a DTC is set
                      • HO2S heater resistance learn reset with a scan tool, where available
Perform the above in order to reset the HO2S resistance learned value and avoid possible HO2S failure.

I can’t remember if there is finishing prompt or if it’s just simply pushing the learn button and it’s learned.

Yeah thats the same info i found on the alldatapro. And thats really all i did was hit the reset button for upsteam and downstream sensors, so i just did my first monitor reset procedure and hopefully i will get through tomorrows 2nd reset procedure check engine light free!!!!!!!

Thanks for everyones time and input and will let you know if it goes through I/M

OK so after almost 2 months of diagnosing and replacing pointless parts its is confirmed that someone did in fact enter wrong info in the inventory computers at my place of business! (SOB!!) So my problem dtc-P0054 is gone passed inspection and onto the next headache.

Thankyou to all that assisted me in this problem i greatly apptreciate it, and god bless this site!
