2007 impala 3500 po172

      Hey guys, yesterday I helped a friend with his 2007 impala 3500. I changed a vacuum canister for the emissions that was under the back of the car near the fuel fill tube. I also changed out what I assume were all original spark plugs. The 3 in the back had electrodes that were getting thin looking, and the 3 in the front had electrodes that were worn down to the insulator.
      It runs great now, but it came.up with a fresh code of po172 fuel trim system rich..
      Is there something else I should be looking for, or is this a case of running a car that sat for a while and now there are just some perverbial cobwebs to run out of the system by hyway driving?

        I would try and run it a little bit. If it’s a little rich, it’s not going to hurt it unless it’s super rich. I think running the cobwebs out of it is the cheapest test. Try unhooking the battery for a bit, then hooking it up to clear the code. Let the car relearn the idle, etc, then take it for a spin. I bet it isn’t used to the new plugs and working so efficiently.

        The days of resetting by disconnecting the battery are over. You may want to check with GM TSBs. Look all of them over very carefully. You may need a reprogram afterwards like it is in my 2001 Max.

        Sometimes you need a Sales center computer so go over to GM if that’s the case and get some coffee and make some friends.

          Hmmm two things… status of purge solenoid and when was the last time the O2 sensors were changed? Since it is just one bank I would look hard at the upstream O2 on that bank.
