Following Eric’s great YouTube video on “How to change Honda Automatic transmission fluid” I changed my transmission fluid for the first time (THANKS ERIC!!)
After changing it I checked the fluid level per the Alldata/Honda instructions.

      They are as follows:

      1. Park the vehicle on the level ground.
      2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on), and turn the engine off. Do not allow the engine to warm up more than the radiator fan comes on twice. NOTE: Check the fluid level within 60 – 90 seconds after turning the engine off. Higher fluid level may be indicated if the radiator fan comes on twice or more.

I hooked my Actron scanner up to the DLC and started the engine. The car, after about 25 minutes of idling, eventually reached a Max temp of 190F but the radiator fan never came on. I kept the scanner hooked up to the car and took it for a spin around the block. The temperature ranged between 186F-190F but I don’t think the fan came on as it was hard to tell while driving.

Should the radiator fan defiantly kick on at a certain temp and does anyone know what that temp is?
The only spec that Alldata is showing in regards to this is the temp at which the thermostat start to open.

      Thanks in advance!

You can verify that the fans come on simply by turing on the AC, when you do this both fans should run while the compressor clutch is engauged. I think you would be better to leave the scanner disconnected when you run the engine to get the fans to turn on because of temp because the computer will act a little differently with the DLC connected. If your not having issue with overheat I wouldn’t worry about the fans however as they are probably working fine, it will take much longer for them to come on in colder weather BTW.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have to do another round of drain, fill & drive. I will update once I check the fluid level again.

If the radiator cooling fans worked prior to your transmission fluid service, they still should be working fine now.

It never hurts to check the fuses though when you suspect an electrical issue.

I agree with Eric – if it’s not overheating then you may be looking for a problem where one doesn’t exist.
If you want to force the fans to come on (not using the A/C) then hold the RPM at 2000 for a few minutes after it reaches operating temp and I bet they will kick in.

Leave the thing idle for maybe 30-45 min and see if it kicks on, If the temp gauge goes up to 3/4 and comes down once the fans kick on it’s fine.
