      Hiya,

      I have a 2007 Fj cruiser.
Check out the vid: ref vid

It seems it happens only with the AIR on and it is more pronounced during warmed days of the year. Loud clicking sound accompanies the revs change sort of like a refri1gerator.

Question. Is it normal? Is it supposed to be like this?

If no suggestions would be welcome.

I ask here because there are like less then 10 cars like this here in Poland and before I go to the handy man, I need some basic info so he doesn’t bullshit me.

Are you talking about the 1-2 hundred rpm change your seeing on the tach? The only clicking I was hearing in the video was what sounded like someone turning on and off the blower motor? A slight fluctuation in the tach is normal as the ac compressor turns on and off. This put a light load on the engine and the Idle air control valve will make adjustments to compensate for it.

According to the video. Your idle is normal. When you turn
the air on the idle will pickup slightly. All normal. 🙂

Looks normal to me. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Also, you can post a link to a YouTube video simply by coping and pasting the URL into your post.

                Thanks.

One down, several still to go.
One more thing. Is it normal for engine to heat up to red while still and idling in the 104.00ºF sun?
I am not very car savvy, sorry, but I am learning.
I just love the beast in spite of it’s imperfections. All computers now not real mechanics around to learn from.

It is not normal for it to heat under any circumstance. Can you tell us more? BTW, I wish I was where it is 104 in the sun.

So, I drive somewhere and it is 104 F outside, sun (now now as its winter outside). If I happen to drive through a traffic jam, i see the temperature go from middle position almost to the red. Then, usually i look for a place to get off the traffic to drive faster to cool it down and it helps. Could it be the coolant? Should i change it per season? I know it doesn’t leak.

Anything from a 60/40 mix (antifreeze to water) to plain water should cool perfectly. The additives in antifreeze can be consumed over time (corrosion protection and lubrication) so change coolant every 30K for this reason.

Well, I’m sure Eric has a video on overheating. I’ll put in a link.

check that your fan is running.

It is running. At these temperatures it is pretty audible.

If you know your cooling fan is working then I would check the airflow through the radiator. If you’re overheating while sitting, it’s usually a problem with airflow. There is one other possibility, no coolant circulation. This could be due to a bad water pump or a clogged radiator. These are much harder to nail down and require removal of the above components to verify.

                              Thanks for the vid.

I have to add this to the list of essentials for the spring.
