Howdy folks, this is my first post on ETCG, been watching the you tube channel for a few years now. I’ve got a 2007 Hyundai Accent with around 150,000 Km on it. It’s a 5 speed manual transmission. Recently I’ve noticed a faint bearing noise that sounds like rustling or racing bearing noise. It only comes up under load when the car is accelerating. I don’t hear it when revving the engine when it’s stationary.

At first I thought it was suspension or wheel noise, but after checking that all out it’s still there. I think it might be coming from the transmission or drive train. It’s pretty faint and can’t be heard unless the radio is off. Is this something I should be worried about or should I just turn the music up to drown it out? haha

Thanks in advance for any help I can get!

Do you hear the noise when you lift push the clutch pedal?
If so it might be the clutch through out bearing.

Hey Nemesisf16, thanks for the reply, the clutch is fully engaged and I still hear it. It’s most audible when accelerating in 2nd gear. The sound changes with speed, at a higher frequency as I accelerate. Most passengers don’t even notice it, but I do and it drives me nuts.

Forgot to mention that it’s also getting harder to downshift into second from a slow turn or when I’m rolling. I have to double clutch and rev match to get it to shift smoothly.

I’d say your clutch is saying goodbye. Giving the year it is a self adjusting clutch. I would try there. If you are having difficulty selecting gears than it is definitely the clutch. If you decide to replace it check the flywheel as well.

It is difficult to say for sure I would need to hear and see it for myself but I’m in Europe and you are probably in the US. Maybe someone else can give you their opinion but from what you describe I’d say it has something to do with the clutch.

I’ll get it checked out, it’s not too bad, but it isn’t like it used to be. I’m in Canada, I think they call it the getz in Europe. For now I’ll change the fluid, and when I notice it starting to slip etc I might have to bite the bullet and get it replaced. I just changed the timing belt on this car and it cost quite a bit.

I think I can get a year or so out of this clutch if it does turn out to be the issue.

                Thanks again.
