your nearing the 100k mark. a tune up would be recommended. cap, rotor, ngk plugs, air filter( on the cap and rotor only use Honda OE parts)
clean the throttle body as you stated. the fuel injector service.also remove the egr valve and clean out the passages. keep us posted on your progress. C8-)
you might consider changing all the fluids.March 3, 2012 at 11:00 am #439441+1 on the tune up if you dont know the service history of it.
Does the vehicle rev high before moving? I would also check the transmission fluid also.
I would not recommend cleaning the throttle body on that type of TAC design either.
March 4, 2012 at 11:00 am #439442i changed all the fluids, new oem plugs, adjusted the valves. this car has coil on plug so there isn’t any cap and rotor. but all coil packs are in good shape. no evidence of them pulling high amounts of current. meaning discoloring. cleaning the throttle body is recommenced, honda has a preceudre for it. the egr is also a good idea i didn think of. im gonna check the app sensor with the scan tool at work. ( i work at honda, so luckily its all the same stuff for the most part.) see if there is something going on there.
the car dose not rev high before it starts moving, so i know i dont have a trans problem. . id really like to drive another car and compare it.
thanks for the ideas guysMarch 4, 2012 at 11:00 am #439443This may just be a case of crappy Drive by Wire ecu programming. I suspect you just didn’t notice until you got comfortable in your car.
I know 2006+ Civics are like this also, Step on the gas and there is a definite time lag before the computer accepts and implements this driver input.
It really bothers me for some reason when there is no direct cable connection from the gas pedal to the throttle body. I know that higher performance cars don’t have this lag issue.. but it still bothers me.
March 4, 2012 at 11:00 am #439444One thing I specifically remember about the drive by wire Hondas is that the system is designed for emissions purposes. So, say, you start the car up and floor it on a cold start, the PCM won’t give you more fuel then the car can burn. But if you are due for a tuneup and the o2 sensors are seeing a rich condition because the plugs won’t burn all the fuel thrown in there, then the PCM will remove fuel, and you will get less pep. Sounds like you have access to scan equipment. I’d be interested in what your LTFT looks like. Probably negative.
March 5, 2012 at 11:00 am #439445I doubt it’s a problem with the APP because that should set a code PDQ – stuff like that which can cause unintended acceleration would be monitored pretty close.
Like Beefy said, if you have access to a scan tool, hook it up and look for anything out of the ordinary – maybe ECT reading or fuel trims, etc.
March 5, 2012 at 11:00 am #439446It’s not the sensor, in fact I don’t think the 06 used DBW but here is a video review of a TSX (09) that I did before I started the ETCG channel that might interest you.
March 8, 2012 at 11:00 am #439447i had the chance to drive another car, an 04, it felt identical to mine. meaning the throttle response and the acceration. gonna clean my throttle body and install a new gasket and run some of this fancy injector cleaner we have at work through the fuel system and i should be good to go
March 9, 2012 at 11:00 am #439448Yea I’ve never liked the acceleration of those as even new there seemed to be a delay before it did anything when you mash the pedal, a good car other than that. I find the manuals to be MUCH better FYI.
March 11, 2012 at 11:00 am #439449yeah its weird the the accord 4 cylinders of the same year or that generation have really quick instant acceleration. but once you get it going its really good up top. just wish vtec was set a lot lower. ive heard that to. but hondata has claims of the manual version making more power and tq when equipped with intake header and a relfash.
March 12, 2012 at 11:00 am #439450It could be something in the programming probably to meet emissions standards, the TSX is actually a European spec Accord.
December 17, 2012 at 6:29 am #485155The 2004 tsx has DBW throttle body. There is a delay in the response of initial move off.
