2006 toyota tundra 6 cylinder: This is interesting…. the fill plug head actually faces vertical (if I have it right) on the passenger side of the transmission towardfs the top, there is a sort barrel shaped portion of the tranny and plug at the top. Pain in the rear…. wondering if I could fill through the add on traany fluid cooler lines by simpley poping one off and pouring it …

      Any thoughts?

You could, but then you wouldn’t know the correct amount to put in it. The 4Runner should be the exact same transmission and engine.

I saw the video, thanks for pointing it out, but it is not the same transmission.

The difference would be pouring and pumping….. that would not change quantities.

Ohhh I see what you mean now. I was thinking that you would fill the transmission up until it drips out of the tube you’re filling in, but you mean to keep both of them open and fill it through the return line until it drips out of the fill plug? If so, that would be perfectly fine, although a lot more would probably drip out because the lines would be full of fluid when it starts dripping out of the fill plug.

I think you run the risk of not setting the proper level doing it that way. It’s important to get the proper fluid level or you could damage the transmission.

Please explain why? Quantities and use of the overflow tube do not change.

What if the level is low? Or too high? How are you going to determine that? As stated if the level is not correct then you can damage or compromise the operation of the transmission.

I believe that crashdebug is only going to fill through the tranny cooler return line (like a dipstick tube) but still keep the fill plug open to check and the fluid, once topped off will still drain out through there. A ton easier than using a pump, and should work perfectly fine.

Well, the same question can be posed when you pump it in…. You put in the amount you drain out, or check with dipstick or other measuring device given to determine fluid level. Am I missing something? Thanks for everything.

The thing that’s missing is that when you fill by pumping it into the fill hole when it’s full the fluid begins to run out when it’s full. The important thing is to make sure the vehicle is level when you do this.
