So I am the proud new owner of a 2006 Honda element. We really love the automobile and got a good deal on it. Of course, one reason was because it has a few problems that the small car lot didn’t want to invest in, so he let it go pretty cheap.
It’s a 2006 Honda Element ex all wheel drive with 110,780 miles on it. I have a few issues and I hope someone can point me in the right direction before it’s scheduled inspection this Friday at the dealership, so maybe I don’t get hosed. I’ll try to explain my issues as best I can so bear with me.******PROBLEM ONE*******
1.) Check engine light is on, four codes were read and all of them were p02422; evap solenoid stuck shut and or open and vent valve stuck shut.
The E seems to drive fine, no funny sounds, misses, hiccups or smells. Has the characteristic honda shifts, and once in a great while there will be a harsher shift but nothing I would consider abnormal…we have a 03 crv and it has very firm shifts especially the 1-2 and 2-1 shift. It’s always done that, in fact almost every Element and cr-v I have driven does.******PROBLEM TWO******
2.) The shift knob sometimes will not shift from park without the manual over ride. (Yes I am applying the brakes to release the lever) Sometimes there will be a clicking sound at the lever whenever I apply the brakes, even during driving this happens. Lot’s of people have said this is normal, it’s a safety feature. This isn’t normal, it’s intermittent in nature.
My biggest fear is that it’s something major screwing with all those things like a ecu. One mechanic said that it was possible, something about not giving the correct voltage to those solenoids. Another mechanic said it could be two unrelated problems and it could actually be evap related and transmission related. He said the shift lock engages when the ecu detects a problem with the transmission. (I thought it was a safety feature / not a fail safe feature) and lastly one mechanic said it was possibly evap and wrong tps voltage (something about high idle) being sent to the computer which engages the shift lock to stop damage to the transmission. These were all local small shops. With so many different possibilities, we have chose to take it to a dealership for a possible diagnosis.
I recently was diagnosed with a slow growing cancer so, please please please can someone help me in the right direction. We are supposed to be taking this vehicle on a cross country trip in may and need to have this all straightened out before hitting the road. We were wanting to do this before I start treatments and tests.
Thanks in advance to whomever replies.
