I’m working on a 2006 GMC front diff. The seals are leaking, so I picked up a couple SKF seals and measured everything before installing the drivers side seal. As I began to tap the short shaft back into the pumpkin I noticed it was driving the seal deeper into the bore until it bottomed out. I’m not sure if this is going to leak again once I reassemble everything. Does anyone have any first hand experience with changing these seals? If I leave this seal where it is and reassemble everything, is it going to leak or get damaged? I want to make sure before I tackle the passenger side as it’s quite a bit more work.
