      Hey i am working on my mothers(1 owner) 2006 Dodge Durango 4×4 5.7 Hemi, 73,000 miles.A check engine light has come on for P0700(general transmission problem) & P0740-Torque Converter Clutch Circuit.http://engine-codes.com/p0740_dodge.html The trans fluid has never been changed so i changed it with the recommended mopar synthetic fluid & both filters.The fluid is clean & has no metal chunks in it(i took a magnet to the collected fluid)& it does not shift bad or anything)i reset the check engine light. 2 days later it pops back up the same codes. So i take it to dodge & have them scan it. They say its not the solenoid pack but the actual torque converter is faulty its self & suggested a new transmission torque converter,Because it of torque converter lockup in the last gear (5th gear)- 1900.00 for parts & labor.When i was talking to them this seemed more common on the 4×4 Durangos. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem & if it fixed the problem or they had to replace the transmission as well afterwards.

            It wont let me view the pics on that page.
            The dodge dealership said if it had given another code because there is a additional 4 or 5 codes to the p0740-p0745 that would tell if it was a transmission sensor. They said if they would of gotten more codes they would think it would of been a sensor & not a torque converter.they said when they get the p0700 & the p0740 90% its the torque converter.Thats just what they are saying i called a shop i regularly do business with & they said its usually a torque converter as well.& the transmission shops i am calling are recommending replacing the transmission as well.best warranty so far has been a 12 month 12,000-15,000 mile warranty with upgraded parts. here is the readout from the scan.

              Most times it is a transmission failure. Keep us posted on how things go and what direction you decide to take.

                before i called dodge headquarters i called a few local transmission shops & they agreed they have not seen a 545rfe go before 100,000 & that the transmission has had mutiple upgrades to the internals since 2006.So I called corporate headquarters yeasterday & they reviewed my claim for about 2-3 hrs & i explained that it hasn’t been worked on by anyone besides dodge & proved it. The transmission failed before its first scheduled maintenance at 120,000 & they called the dealership it was bought from the dealer i took it to for the scan & they are claiming the parking gear recal( parking gear went out within the first 1,000 miles she owned it) is not connected to the transmission failure @ 73,000.& they do not want to cover it, & i called them back today & told them that i was calling to see where we were & they said they would not cover it so i asked if dodge valued my families continued business with them (she has been buying dodges for the past 20 years).also my grandfather worked for dodge in Michigan for 30 + years in the steel mills manufacturing they’re frames & molds,from the early 1950’s till the late 1980’s. he dedicated his life to that company & i planned to buy another vehicle from them when i get back home.They could probably replace the transmission at they’re cost for under a thousand, After this i wont be buying another dodge or chrysler product.
