I paid 120$ for diagnostic and they say valves need to be adjusted and they can do it for 700$ I refused and did it by my self. Thanks Eric for that video on You Tube. Like on that video intake were a bit loose, exhaust – tight. Adjustment didn’t help, knocking same like before and noise stays even on warmed up engine. Under that valve cover I think noise comes from all parts are discolored, radish-brown and other side like new, all parts have metallic color. It has 208000 km, maybe previous owner changed one head, or that head doesn’t get enough oil.
I need your help guys to find out whats wrong. Love this car, don’t want to get rid of it or spend thousands at a service. Thanks!

Does it sound louder underneath the vehicle? Any metal or brass shavings in the engine oil?

A I can read, you have a compressor. So you can easily do a leak test for some coolant missing. A leak test will show you where the coolant is leaking. It’d not a prerequisite to buy the leak tools. But, you will have a better picture of the situation.

Congrats for the spring change. It’s half the procedure for changing a head gasket. The crankshaft are tricky business.

I did leak down test, but with out gages. I checked 4,5,6, nothing from coolant, exhaust, intake, just a little from oil cap.
What else can I do? Just about give up! Maybe piston pin? Or any bearings ?

As I use my logic, the only part near the engine that would move after the engine is off is the the injector that move whit electricity. The I eared a spiff after the engine is off. So I conclude is the cylinder injector that might be in problem. Why this injector still receive electrical signal to puch gas into you cylinder when It’s off. I have no idea. You can swap 2 injector to see if the injector is defective.

                    Reordered injectors and nothing changed.
I noticed some carbon build up in intake. What it could mean?

Maybe it’s to much carbon build up on intake valves?

that carbon build up is normal. Are the lost motion assemblies installed under the intake rocker arms? They are springs that keep tension on the intake rockers when vtec is not in use. Is the noise louder on the intake or exhaust side of the head??

There are one extra rocker arm and spring on intake side for each cylinder. I don’t know how it works.
Noise louder on exhaust side, exhaust maniffold

If you thing you have carbon build up, you can buy the Lucas injector cleaner for 10 us$. You put all the bottle in you fuel tank when you fill up your tank.

I think you have already change the intake valve spring to avoid carbon build up in the manifold.
Did you change all the 4 spring in the noisy cylinder head ?

I changed all four on that cylinder.
I took the car to dealer today. Mechanic said it is piston slap, need some short block, but not so bad I can drive for years with that noise. I don’t like that, but will see how it will sound later

They will replace the short block, aka the block w/pistons, rods, crank, oil pump and oil pan.
