I paid 120$ for diagnostic and they say valves need to be adjusted and they can do it for 700$ I refused and did it by my self. Thanks Eric for that video on You Tube. Like on that video intake were a bit loose, exhaust – tight. Adjustment didn’t help, knocking same like before and noise stays even on warmed up engine. Under that valve cover I think noise comes from all parts are discolored, radish-brown and other side like new, all parts have metallic color. It has 208000 km, maybe previous owner changed one head, or that head doesn’t get enough oil.
I need your help guys to find out whats wrong. Love this car, don’t want to get rid of it or spend thousands at a service. Thanks!

Yes, when the engine knowing is most of the time valve timing. The worst thing is a broken valve.
700 us$ to do that is a steal. So It’s can be the spring itself. The spring that not retract faster enough you will have explosion noise and kind of knocking.

The discoloration is completely normal. The rear head on your car recieves fresh air from the intake tube, the front head recieves blow by via the PCV valve causing the discoloration. Post up an audio/video clip so we can better help you.

I’d suggest a compression test, that sounds a bit more significant to me.

Thanks! The compression test can give me some idea.

Oh brother that doesn’t sound good. Sound like a piston slap or rod bearing knock.I’m not sure if this work maybe someone can verify this before you try it. But I think if you have a piston slap and if you disconnect the coil pack to the cylinder it suppose stop making the noise. And you can identify which Cylinder is making the noise.

You can use a mechanical stethoscope to find the right one and then if you want to be sure just to replace one spring valve above the cylinder you can use valve spring tester. Do do the job yourself, you need to have air compressor to keep the valve up whiteout falling down and valve spring tools. See video whit pressure test to see how your setup will be.

Thanks! Very good information on Videos. Im going to work on this on weekend if I find all tools I need. I wish I could just rent them. Stethoscope and spring tool I think are not expensive, but testers will cost some money.

Hey Alex after hours of research I think I found some information to base my first post… Like I say I’m no mechanic here but have great acknowledge of honda engine and issues since I have been reading about them for the past 3 years non stop :). Attach is a TSB for honda accord v6 which share almost the same engine as yours and they even have an audio..It may not sound like yours but I think the reason for that is you car has already a lot of mileage and I have read this noise start on car that even has only 30k so go figure…I also found that this issue you having is HUGE with your model there ARE forum online that have over 30 pages of people complaning about this. Most of them complain about dealer always recommending valve adjus. with same results….Like I say I can just provide you with the information I can’t give you a guidence on where to go from here since I haven’t done that type of work on this engine.

                                  Good Luck.

I did some testing and now I know something wrong with #5 cylinder. I found stethoscope and checked noise around all engine, louder by #5
