2005 Volvo XC90 2.5 Turbo 5 Cylinder.
I am getting oil around the top of the white portion of on spark plug on the far cylinder, driver side. I am loosing about 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. How hard is it to replace the valve cover gasket on this engine? The cover runs into the timing belt pulley’s on the top. Would I have to uninstall the timing belt to do this job? The timing belt was replaced only about 5,000 miles ago. Does anyone think this will fix this oil leak? Does anyone out there have any experience with this engine as far as what else could be causing the oil consumption? There is about 110k on the SUV. Thanks!

I had a similar engine once. Check the turbo. Does it smoke a lot when you floor it on a highway ? Does it smoke if you leave it idle for a minute and then push hard on the throttle ?
There are lots of places oil can leak. Your spark plug leak may only be one of them. As pointed out, it could also be a turbo issue. It could also be burning oil.
I don’t believe you need to worry about the timing belt when you replace the valve cover. In fact, I’d be surprised if you did. Looks like you have plenty to remove to get to it however.
