      Greetings all!

2005 Honda Civic LX – 2 door with 115K miles on it

Symptom: Two days ago, a rubbing sound from the rear when I applied the brakes

Diagnosis: I took both back tires and brake drums off, and all brake shoes look almost new. The brake drums are original.

–> I noticed that, when I place the brake drum on the back left wheel hub (with four lug nuts) and spin it, the “distance” between the brake drum edge and the dust shield is not the same (as in, the brake drum “wobbles” when it spins). I swapped rear left and right brake drums, and the problem stays with the rear left (telling me that the issue is NOT with the brake drums).

What else can I check, to ensure that the wheel and drum sit flush with the wheel hub?

Check that the hub is clean and free of rust.

Spin the hub itself and fix some sort of stationary gauge close to its edge, to see if it wobbles. If it does, you have bad hub bearing or other structural damage to suspension in that area allowing hub to sit crooked.
If not, you have rust build up on hub mating surface causing drum to sit crooked – or bent studs. Or, a stud that sits crooked in its seat.
