So here is my problem, I have a 2005 Chevy Cavalier and im going through a set of front brakes every 10,000 miles. Im not very hard on the brakes and do mostly highway driving. What happens is after about 10K miles the brakes are just simply over heated the rotors are almost blue and have heat cracks and groves all through them and the pads are cracked as well. At first I thought (im on my 2nd set like this btw) that the slide pins were stuck, replaced the pads and rotors with quality Wagner parts (ceramic pads) and lubed the pins with silicon paste. 10K latter same story pads and rotors are over heated and cracked, replaced them again with quality parts as well as the callipers this time, and im right back where i started again! What im thinking at this point is this may be due to a collision the car was in about 35,000 miles ago, it was on the right front corner and bent the rim, after watching Eric’s 2002 Cavlier power steering rack video im wondering if this may be where my issue is. The car holds a good alignment but it seems to drift a bit from time to time.

Sorry for the long post but I figured id give everyone as much to work with as I could. I really don’t want to sell the car but this is getting old quick. Thanks in advance for any advice.

sora this is a very common problem with these cavaliers. rust builds up behind the rubber boot that the guide pins go threw and it stops the calipers from retracting after the brakes are on, thus prematurely endingthepads and rotors. I would suggest replacing the calipers, they are relatively cheep and usually an easy job. If you want to go the cheapest rout you can pull out the rubber boots and clean the insides with a drill bit. Make sure you lube everything up with some brake paste. hope this helps
