I am fast approaching my scheduled transmission fluid change. I have always brought it to the dealer in the past but I hope to do it myself this weekend. It looks fairly straight foreword, much like changing differential fluid. I have a few questions though:
-What type of fluid should I use? -I know that Honda automatics will die if Honda fluid isn’t used
-Is there clutch fluid that needs to be changed as well? And if so, what fluid should I use for that?
-Is there anything in particular that would stand out from a general transmission fluid change? Any obstacles…?If any of you have done this procedure on said automobile, please share your experience :]

For Honda, in my limited experience use either Honda manual transmission fluid or engine oil because it is thinner than gear oil. As for the clutch, I replace clutch fluid every 90-100 thousand miles, whenever I replace brake fluid. Just use DOT 3 brake fluid for the clutch. Procedure is very easy and I don’t know of any special procedures. No reason you shouldn’t be able to do it yourself, best of luck.
Use Honda transmission fluid or GM syncromesh fluid. I’d stick with the Honda fluid. You’ll need 3 quarts but you wont’ use all of the 3rd quart. When you fill the transmission make sure you lift the rear wheels as well to make sure the vehicle is level when you fill it. If not the level won’t be set correctly. Other than that it’s just a drain and refill.
