Since this one is 2 parts I’ll end up posting both videos here when done. I think the most ‘controversial’ part of this series will be the service interval. I did have quite a bit of trouble nailing down a service interval, in fact most of what I found said ‘don’t change it’. What are your thoughts and experiences?

        Eric,

Hey bud came accross this and thought I would be great if you reviewed it to verify correctness. Also would be cool to double check that 4Runner if it comes through the shop again.

Sorry about that, thought the links would take you to the files. I have attached them this time. I’m new to your forum and still not real used to it.

No worries. Happy to have you here. The attachments aren’t showing up yet. My developer has been working on this. I’ll check back after he gets it squared away.

                Hi Eric,

Thanks to this video, I now feel like I can take on the transmission fluid change in my 2007 Toyota Tacoma!

A few months have gone by since this video, is everything is still cool with the Valvoline Max Life instead of the proprietary Toyota fluid?

Eric, I would really like to know; All this time later, how has the transmission performed in that 4Runner with the mix of Maxlife and Toyota T-IV fluid?

Toyota simply says to “Check” transmission fluid every 60 thousand miles.

They also say that the tranny fluid is a ‘lifetime’ fluid but they expect the lifetime of the car to be 144,000 miles or about 12 years apparently because that is when their service recommendations end.

Hi 05Cmary, looks like my last post was over 2.5 years ago. I ended up mixing Maxlife with my Toyota “WS” fluid back then, and never had an issue with it. Hope this helps.

To the best of my knowledge the owner of the truck never experienced any problems either. At this point it’s been at least 3 years.

Thanks Eric, I have been considering switching/mixing from Toyota T-IV to Maxlife in my Camry.

The big car companies do a lot to scare us little owners into using whatever fluid they say is required. Seems silly that Toyota or Honda or any car manufacturer would make special lubricants when they aren’t lubricant companies.

On the contrary, they don’t. They go to the lubricant manufacturers and have them whip up something just for their products and their products specific needs. I know for a fact not using Honda fluid in a Honda transmission can and does cause trouble. That’s because Honda uses a specially designed transmission that requires the special fluid.

I’m an advocate of using what the manufacturer recommends, but when you can find a less expensive alternative that is proven to work, I’m good. The key phrase being ‘proven to work’.
