Alright, Just bought the 12 years old car and I am suspecting that transmission fluid never been changed before.

car have 84,000 miles on it. will it be ok to change the transmission fluid now without having problems after changing the old fluid ? do I need to drop the transmission oil pan out to get any dirty/burned oil or metal peaces from the trany?

      😀

Are there any issues with the transmission?
What is the condition of the fluid…
Pink and clear or brownish ? does it smell burnt?
There is no requirement of transmission fluid change in the Ford Maintenance Schedule.

If you plan on this service..
        Suggest you :
Remove and clean the inside of the transmission pan
        Replace the transmission filter
        Reinstall
You do not specify what motor
A V6 appears to have an
Initial fill of 5qts (Pan drop and filter replacement)
Total fill of 13.9qts (Pan drop / filter replacement and torque converter complete flush/refill)
        A V8 has
Initial fill of 5qts (Pan drop and filter replacement)
Total fill of 12.7qts (Pan drop / filter replacement and torque converter complete flush/refill)
        As to having problems:
If the transmission is operating properly with out issue..
        I would think not,

It’s a GT V8. I don’t have any problems with the transmission. But I want to keep it healthy and running smooth that’s wht I’m thinking of changing it.
You are right I didn’t see any recommendations for changing the trany fluid.

For the sake of keeping it healthy, is it worth it? Can I drain without dropping the pan?

            I maybe wrong..
But I do not believe Mustangs have a drain plug.
The only way ( one of two actually ) would be to remove the pan while there may as well change the transmission filter, unless you know for sure your filter is of the metal screen design.

            The other way:
Though not recommended by many (but when done correctly works)
