2004 Mazda 3 S 2.3 Hatchback with 175,000 miles. The AC has always worked flawlessly until a couple of months ago. It has a full charge, no leaks.
When you first get in the car, the AC compressor doesn’t kick on. After driving about 15 minutes, it finally kicks on. But, if you switch the car off, it will take an additional 15 minutes for it to come back on again. When it does kick on, the system blows ice cold.
Several years ago, I had an issue that common with these cars that the fan control switch had gone bad. I replaced that switch, which fixed that issue. But I think this is a different problem, because when that switch was failing, the green AC light on the panel would turn off. Jiggle the switch, and the light would turn on and the system would engage. That light is staying on now though, and jiggling the switch doesn’t engage the clutch. That tells me this is something different.
Any ideas?
