I have a 2004 elantra with 90k miles. It has a p0010 code witch is intake camshaft position actuator circuit/open bank 1.The car runs kinda rough. It also has a oil leak from I don’t know where. Not sure if it is all connected or different issues. If anyone has any ideas how to find the cause of the p0010 thank you in advance.

The oil leak is likely a separate issue. Since the code is for an open, check to see if the wiring and connector are in good shape. It would be best to test the sensor output to know that it really is bad before replacing it but you may not have a lab scope to do that with. That said, you might consider replacing the sensor, clearing the code, and seeing if the problems and check engine light go away.

        Keep us posted.

Another thing that is common with the p0010 code is the oil control filter being clogged for the oil control solenoid valve (aka variable valve timing solenoid).

It is behind a 14mm bolt on the driver’s side of the engine and can easilty be accessed without having to put the car on a lift or anything special. Locate the thermostat covered with wiring harnesses and then move toward the front of the engine and there is the 14mm bolt that covers the filter.
You will want a 14mm wrench as a socket will be hard to fit in there (the radiator hoses are in the way).

When this little filter gets clogged it stops the oil from getting to the solenoid valve. This prevents the camshaft from moving. So, a possibility is that the clog is causing the camshaft position error code. It is easy to take the little filter out and clean.
The part is available from a Hyundai dealer for like 16 dollars. It is the oil control valve filter. That’s if you want to replace it instead of clean it.

I had this on my car and cleaning the filter got rid of the Check Engine Light/ Diagnostic Trouble Code p0010.

The camshaft will still rotate with the oil control filter clogged. It won’t change position to vary the variable valve timing for the intake (air valves).
