I guess this is a motivational post as much as a service and repair question. Here it goes.

My Honda Odyssey has 140k miles and I’m pretty sure it still has the factory spark plugs. I know, I know it’s bad. The good news is that I suspect that it might not be so bad. Lots of highway miles, little corrosion on other parts of the engine. Stuff like that gives me hope. How bad do you think it will be? I’ve changed plugs before but never at this high mileage.

Here’s my plan, let me know if you think this sounds right.

      1. Cold engine, early am.
      2. Take the coils out and spray some pb blaster down into the spark plug wells.
      3. wait
      4. Take a sip of coffee, cross fingers.
      5. Take the first plug, push CLOCKWISE a touch, then COUNTERCLOCKWISE.

Hopefully it all works out, but the next part of the question is what do I do if I break something?
      I didn’t see a video on this.

      Thanks!
      Ivan

I would just try to get them out on a cold engine.
Also just try to back them out not forward first.
When you do change them put a tiny amount of antisieze
on the threads before reinstallation. The coffee can stay. 😉

Don’t overcomplicate this. Don’t put penetrating oil in the spark plug wells. Also, don’t put anything on the threads of the new plugs. VERY important you only use NGK or Nippon Denso plugs however.

The plugs should come out no problem. Working on a cold engine is a good idea however.

              Good luck.

This is like Elvis talking to me about how to play the guitar!

                Thanks Eric!

Edit: Duh.. there was just a google plus video on this.. The very first question was about the plugs. http://www.ericthecarguy.com/google-hang-outs-list/899-ericthecarguy-answers-questions-live-25-8-27-2014

If any plug decides to be extra stubborn, stop! Take it to a professional. You can do serious damage if you don’t.
